RD003: OA-4M Marine Bandits

This combo mask/decal sheet is dedicated to Marines FAC flying the OA-4M in the early nineties. Three complete aircraft can be done:

OA-4M – MAG-32 Bandit #04 (light grey and green with opposite colour decals)
OA-4M – MAG-32 Bandit #01 (light grey with black decals)
OA-4M – MAG-32 Bandit #03 (grey with light grey decals)

Bandit 01 is the easiest of the three and can be made completely with supplied decals. Crewed by Major JJ Krejmas JR, callsign FAMOUS is printed on the left side under the front canopy. The crew chief SGT Smits name was printed on the nose gear door. Other source provided CWO3 Bowden as pilot and CPL Pedigo as crew chief. This aircraft can also be painted green and dark grey and the same black markings. The big 01 markings are for the internal flaps.

Bandit 03 is the hardest of the three as the tonal differences between the aircraft colours and the markings are subtle and quite different from one marking to another. Aircraft should be TPS or FS36375 grey with FS36495 (light grey) markings with FS36375 text.
Having lighter grey markings on darker grey aircraft skin cannot be done with decals only. This has to be done with combined use of mask allowing to paint a white background and then the light grey decals. Major markings such as numbers, tail codes and star and bars are provided in masks only and their colour can be adapted from your pictures. Different pictures of Bandit 03 are available with and without the the MAG32 emblems on the fuselage. No pilot and crew chief identifications could be seen on real aircraft pictures. The big 03 markings are for the internal flaps.

Bandit 04 is probably the most famous OA-4M from the squadron sporting an attractive lizard scheme of light grey (FS36375) and dark green (FS34079) with opposite colour markings. Pilot name is CAPT W.R. STEENSON and and the aircraft was crewed by LCPL MCDONALD whose name is printed on the nose gear door.
Combined use of decal and masks will be necessary to paint bandit 04.
The big 04 markings are for the internal flaps.

Long before being able to cut my own masks I built Hasegawa 1/32 OA-4M as Bandit 04. the old WIP is on my model blog. It will be much easier today with the masks I provide for the lizard. Smaller details and markings are provided with decals.

The project was developed for the1/32 Hasegawa Skyhawk. It can be scaled down to 1/48 and 1/72, and should match other brand offerings. Do not hesitate to contact me.
